Frequently Asked Questions

What is this program about?

This program is a guided, evidence-based life coaching experience designed to help adults transform their relationship with alcohol. It combines education, mindfulness, self-compassion, and practical behavioral tools to support lasting change. Participants learn to calm their nervous systems, challenge old patterns, and build emotional balance—without shame or stigma.

Who is this program for?

It’s for adults who want to stop drinking or take a sustained break, whether they’ve tried before or are just beginning. You don’t need to have a specific label or diagnosis—only the desire to live with more clarity, freedom, and self-efficacy.

Do I need to identify as an “alcoholic” to join?

No. This program focuses on understanding the why behind your drinking and creating new habits that align with your values. We don’t use labels; we focus on growth and self-awareness.

Is this therapy or treatment?

This is a structured coaching and educational program. It’s designed to teach new coping skills and support personal growth, but is not a substitute for psychotherapy, substance use treatment, or medical care.

How long is the program?

The program is thirteen weeks long. Each week, you will complete a module that builds on the previous week’s work, incorporating videos, written materials, and a live weekly meeting.

What’s included each week?

You’ll receive a guided lesson, reflection prompts, cognitive and mindfulness exercises, and tools for managing cravings and emotions. The live weekly meeting offers group connection, coaching, and discussion.

When are live meetings held?

We will meet as an online community each Tuesday at noon, Central Time, for 50 minutes.

What if I’m unable to attend weekly meetings?

Live meetings are an integral part of the program. If you miss a live meeting, you can still engage with Serenity and your online community in the private forum. However, we ask that you prioritize the weekly meetings, as they are a crucial factor in achieving lasting change.

What methods do you use?

This program integrates Cognitive Behavioral Coaching, Narrative Therapy principles, Mindful Self-Compassion, and evidence-based tools for nervous system regulation. You’ll learn how to manage urges, reframe thoughts, and build an identity that reflects your values.

What makes this program different from AA or other recovery models?

This is not a 12-step program. It’s a science-informed approach that emphasizes self-understanding, personal empowerment, and mindful decision-making rather than rigid abstinence or moral framing.

Will I be pressured to quit completely?

This program is based upon the benefits of committing to a period of abstinence from alcohol use to gain clarity and achieve change.

What technology do I need?

You’ll need a stable internet connection, a computer, tablet, or phone, and a webcam for live meetings. Everything else is included in your membership.

What kind of results can I expect?

Most participants report improved emotional regulation, reduced cravings, greater self-confidence, and renewed energy for life goals. Results depend on your engagement, honesty, and willingness to practice the tools provided.

What if I slip up during the program?

Slips are treated with compassion, not judgment. They are opportunities to learn more about your triggers and strengthen your change mindset.

What happens after the program ends?

You’ll have the option to continue with alumni groups and advanced coaching for accountability and growth.

What if I’m physically dependent on alcohol or experiencing withdrawal?

If you suspect physical dependence or withdrawal symptoms, please seek medical supervision before beginning. This program is educational, not medical, and is best suited for those who are medically stable.

Can I combine this with therapy or medication?

Absolutely. Many participants find that combining coaching with therapy or medication provides the best long-term support.
